Fabrication

Blue Rhino Studio began in 1996 as a creator of Custom Sculptural and painted elements for the Museum, Retail and Tradeshow Industries. Distinctive fabrication is as important to us today as it was then. Working with architects, designers and a huge variety of clients in a wide range of styles, we have produced 2D and 3D pieces in many styles and levels of detail, allowing us to expand our team over the years to include some of the best artists and craftsmen in the industry, and made us a leader in both quality and value.

Sculpture/Model Making:

Our great passion at BRS is creating artifacts and experiences that are inspiring and compelling. Our sculptors and painters create some of the finest realistic replicas for Museums and Interpretive Centers to be seen in the world. We also create dynamic and exiting large scale custom sculptural pieces for Tradeshows, Retail, and Public Spaces. Our facilities have seen finished products of every size, shape and style imaginable from a fully grown Columbian Mammoth, to an 18 foot tall Greek God, to Bald Eagles grappling in flight, to an inch long Prairie Locust you can hold in your hand.

Murals:

Our Muralists have many years of direct experience in the industry. We see each new canvas as an opportunity to create beauty and engage the viewer in the experience, no matter what the style or level of detail. We have the experience to create stunning images of any subject matter, on any scale, in any style, and to weave the image seamlessly into a 3D environment.

Dioramas and Immersive Environments:

Our artists specialize in designing and creating new experiences, from miniature scale models to captivating immersive environments. We’ve produced full scale Native American Villages, a walk-through Eocene diorama 96 feet long, Duel Floor/Gaming Arenas for Role-Playing and Strategy Game Tournaments, entire Seasonal Habitats enclosed in cylindrical cases, a fully interactive Curious George exhibit involving scenes from the books, and theming the children’s wing of Fargo Hospital to provide a happier healing environment.

Metalworking , Woodworking, Casework:

Our team of highly skilled builders can engineer and produce everything in house from museum quality casework and cabinetry to custom structural and decorative elements for libraries, casinos and everything in between. We can engineer your traveling exhibit so it assembles easily and arrives at its destination in perfect condition on custom built carts.

Interactive Elements:

Interactive exhibits provide excellent opportunities to facilitate learning and to further understanding. At Blue Rhino we have produced a number of unique interactive displays including topographic maps of all sizes and scales, complete faux pottery puzzles that assemble into the vessels that contained the Dead Sea Scrolls, animals such as a baby Mastodon, a Hippo ,a Camel, a feathered dinosaur Troadon, and a “Who Dung It?” chair that are both highly realistic and durable enough and designed to be climbed upon. No project is too large, no concept too challenging.

3D Digital Laser Aquisition/ CNC Production:

Laser Scanning is the process of shining a structured laser line over the surface of an object in order to collect 3-dimensional data. The surface data is captured by a camera sensor mounted in the laser scanner which records accurate dense 3D points in space. Our laser scanner can capture the 3D data of an object, usually a scale model done by one of our talented sculptors, and then this data is transferred to the computer where it is aligned, hand-edited and finalized as a complete 3D model by our in-house digital artist. Objects that are analyzed this way can be reproduced at scale with our computer numerically controlled router. We have added these capabilities in order to take greater advantage of our other strengths in the production of large-scale custom sculpture.
